Snow Ordinances

SNOW EMERGENCIES: When there is a snowfall, no one shall park any motor vehicle on the streets, alleys, boulevards, or public grounds (except for municipal parking lots) within corporate limits of the city until snowfall has ceased and the street has been plowed curb to curb, except as provided in (2) below herein.

(1) Any motor vehicle in violation of the above may be immediately removed and impounded by the police department.

(2) Parking shall be permitted on Whitewater Avenue during snow removal operations between 6th Street and 15th Street between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

SNOW REMOVAL FROM SIDEWALKS: No owner or occupant of a property adjacent to a public sidewalk shall allow snow or ice to remain on the sidewalk longer than 24 hours after snow has ceased to fall. After that time, the City may remove the snow or ice and bill the responsible party for costs incurred.

PILING OF SNOW: Persons shall not push or deposit snow or ice into a street or alley from private property or public boulevards. Do not pile snow at street corners or at the ends of public drives so it interferes with the view of the traveling public. Property owners will be charged removal costs if such piles must be removed by City personnel or an agent of the City.

SNOWMOBILES: No person shall operate a snowmobile within city limits upon public property, including City parks, or upon private property, including school grounds. No snowmobile shall be operated upon any other street except for the purpose of moving the vehicle between the owner's residence and the shortest, most direct route to areas outside the city limits. Speed shall not exceed 10 mph; snowmobiles shall keep to the right and travel single file; snowmobile operators shall reduce the vehicle's speed at all intersections and yield the right-of-way to any approaching motor vehicle; snowmobiles shall not be allowed to stand and idle within 200 feet of the nearest residence, except for time necessary to warm up the vehicle; snowmobiles shall not be riddn upon private property without the owner's consent or upon city sidewalks or boulevards; and snowmobiles shall not be operated by any person under the age of 14 years except upon private property.
